Greetings, happy warriors, and welcome to the Rabbi Daniel Lapin show, where I your rabbi, reveal how the world really works. Thank you for being part of the show, and thank you for all you do to help promote it. If you have subscribed to the show, why? I thank you very much indeed for that as well. And we move right onwards with the topic for today, which is making the rest of 2025 count. I'm recording this right at the beginning of July 2025, that means the first six months of the year are past us. But the good news is that the next six months of the year are still ahead of us, and those six months of the year are available for us to achieve a huge amount in our five Fs, and that means whatever needs work in your family life, your relationship with your spouse, your relationship with your children, your relationship with parents or siblings, but whatever It is you now is the time to clarify what it is that you need to be doing. What is needed that will really bring new life rejuvenation to the family arena of your life. Is it relationships with your children, relationships with your parents, almost anything, in fact, indeed, anything having to do with family falls into this arena, finances. What do you need to be doing? Have you been working on building additional streams of income so you're not dependent on only one revenue stream. Are you trying to solve the inflation problem by increasing your revenue on an annual basis? If you haven't done that during the first half of the year? Well, the good news is that there's still the second half of the year to make that work, obviously you have less time to fool around, more time to actually dive into it and get going. But yes, you can do that fitness, right? I don't think there's a single one of us that can't do something about our fitness, right? Impossible. We can all do something there. Friendships. Are you going out of your way to make new friends and to nurture the ones you've got? And have you thought about ways of adding new friends to your circle? Okay, that needs to happen. And then, of course, faith, and I'm going to be talking about that a little bit as well, but these are some of the things that we could be doing during the second half of the year. And so in the other thing you should be checking into is whether you are already a member of the happy warrior community. If you're not, maybe you should the bonus this week is very specifically something to do with measuring progress. Well, obviously, you know anybody knows whether you're trying to increase your finances or your fitness, you know that if you don't have a way of measuring things, you have no way to measure progress, and without a way to measure progress, it's extremely unlikely that well, that you'll have any progress. So if you haven't yet become a member of the happy warrior community, do that, and one of the blessings of membership is that you do get a private bonus recording every week for your benefit. So let us jump in to the understanding that might help you galvanize yourself and spur yourself into action, so as that you will make sure that tomorrow will be different from yesterday, because you're going to be doing something different today. So it's important to understand this is the first step, I think, that we simultaneously live in a material, physical, tangible world, a world with mountains and rivers and motor cars and computer hardware and bricks and buildings and concrete. That's the physical world in which we live. A musical instrument, a piece of electronic. Make wizardry, all of these things the physical world. But we parallel same time, we're also living in a spiritual world. And this actually is the opening verse of the book of Genesis. In the beginning, God created heaven and earth. Doesn't say in the beginning, God created the universe. It doesn't say in the beginning, God created everything, Heaven and Earth. And what is heaven like? Where is it? And you know, what is it? The answer is that heaven means the spiritual world, the world of the soul and Earth means the physical world. And so all the things that God created, you know, trombones and dining room tables and cats and dogs and camels and cows and kangaroos, all the physical things in the world, stars, moon, sun, all of that is covered under in the beginning, God created heaven and earth. And then, because it all says In the beginning, God created heaven. What are those things? Those are the parts of your life that are just as important as the bricks and the pets and everything else and that is love, right? That's a spiritual quality. No way to measure that in a lab, the esteem of friends, the respect that people have for you, the connection with your spouse, the feeling of dignity that you have a need to preserve, which is why you generally don't walk out in the streets naked. Now, I mean, obviously, if there was a massive conflagration and you were naked and you just had to get out of a burning building very quickly. That's different, but your first, once you're safe, your first desire will be to get something to cover yourself with. And in fact, the fire department that is there to help rescue you, they will wrap you in a blanket very quickly, not because you're cold, but because they realize that as a human being, dignity is tied to your covering yourself, and the more sensitive you are as human being, the more of your body you want to cover. And that's right, it's one of the reasons that many, many people who carry within their souls a stronger sense of modesty will cover more of their body. There is a reason that part of modesty is women wearing dresses or skirts rather than pants, right? What is that? Because men's eyes are drawn to the junction of a woman's legs in that that's pretty straightforward. And so by wearing skirts or dresses, so as the junction of the legs is not highlighted, that is a more modest way of dressing. And all of these things are not they have no material or tangible or physical purpose, right? Your physical health isn't going to be impacted by any of these things. You're not going to die because of these things, but you die inside spiritually. You feel humiliated, and indeed, any form of public embarrassment that you suffer is like a mini death, but only spiritually, not physically. Your pet chimpanzee doesn't understand at all what you feel like when you go to a party or an event and everybody starts laughing at you because you didn't realize that you made a mistake. You thought it was a costume party and it wasn't, or you thought it wasn't and it was. But whatever it is, mortification and humiliation are spiritual pains that we feel. Regret. Regrets a very real thing, and feeling it is a very real pain, but it is not a physical pain. It's a spiritual pain, but it's not any the less real for that. It's true, it won't kill you, but it feels like you're dying
Daniel Lapin 9:18
if you have the misfortune to have to suffer that kind of public humiliation, it's awful. And so right at the beginning of Scripture, we are told that one of the most fundamental things you need to understand in order to be able to live happily and fulfillingly in this world in which we find ourselves is to understand spiritual and physical realities. That's first verse before we go any further at all. And so we understand that physically we need oxygen and food and water and a way of putting. Observing our body temperature, all of these things we do get, but we also understand that our yearning for human connection, which finds its fulfillment in one way, on a basis of male female attraction. But it's also the secret behind the proliferation of social media, and it's why people are addicted to their phones, and it's why the first thing when they get up in the morning, they check the phone to see if there are any messages from people we all feel a deep yearning to connect with other people. I'll touch on a little bit more later, but it's there is an interconnect here with the physical side, because there is no shortage of medical literature which describes patient outcomes when the patient has family and friends involved and patients who are more disconnected with other people, it's quite extraordinary. I've collected quite a lot of the stuff, just because it's so amazing. It so validates everything that Scripture tells us about spiritual and physical and the interface right? In other words, it is very difficult, extremely difficult, to function spiritually, even something like prayer, to be able to focus on prayer if you are overwhelmed with financial worry. It's very difficult, and here, the gaining of some money makes it easier for you to pray. And similarly, the other way around human connection, our need for human connection totally spiritual, and yet it has an impact on our physical health in a very real and powerful way. And so this, the important thing, understanding spiritual and physical, could hardly be overstated in its importance. And what I want to do is move on. But first of all, I just want to mention that I think I've told you this that we've got, if you'll see it, on our website, Rabbi Daniel lapin.com, and there's a bunch of our resources that we are not reprinting, because we now tend to sell them digitally. But there are books and there are various things programs that are on close out sale when they're gone, they're gone. Some of them may already no longer be there, but if you want to see if any of those things are available, anything you might want for a gift for yourself, somebody else, go to Rabbi Daniel lapin.com and take a look at the clearance sale. And also, if you haven't already done so, why did you download your free e book of boost your income. Boost your income is a wonderful program. It's something I'm terribly enthusiastic about, and it's essentially three spiritual strategies that impact your earning potential. It impacts your ability to create revenue. And it's not very long. It's not it's not hard to understand. It's just three things you may not have thought of three things whose significance might have, might not have struck you until now. So again, if you go to Rabbi Daniel, actually you should go to we happy warriors.com. That would be the place you can go to. We Happy warriors.com and look for boost your income, the free eBook, download. Just go for it. Get it. It's absolutely free. We want you to have it, and we want you to be able to implement those three strategies as soon as possible. There are six months to go to change the shape of 2025 in your life, and this would be one of the ways to bring that about so spiritual and physical. Not only are they two realities in our lives, and we have to recognize which things are spiritual and things are physical, but we have to understand the way they interact with one another. So for instance, you might wear clothing that makes you feel super confident that that is a spiritual outcome of the fabric and the design and the shape of your clothes. Thing. So being aware of our spiritual side is very important in terms of our entire beings, our health, our revenue, our interactions with other people, the interplay between the five F's, between faith and fitness, between faith and family, between faith and finance, between faith and friendships, all really real, I would say, really important, but it's real. That's thing you got to know so and you also got to know, by the way, the negative side. I've been talking about the positive side, but there's a negative side as well. I'll give you just one example. You can think of many others in your own life. Fear. Fear is a big negative. It's an entire spiritual thing, right? No baboon walks around worrying about where it's going to get food next week. If it's got food now, it's good to go. That's all it needs. And that's true for all animals, that animals do not work themselves into a state of anxiety over whether or not they'll have food next month. Human beings do exactly that all the time and again. I'm not saying that you shouldn't prepare for the future. As human beings, we must prepare for the future, but that's a very different thing from worrying about the future and many of us fall into the trap of just worrying, being fearful about things. And there are people, many of us, who won't do something because they fear well, people will laugh at me, or whoever I need to help me with this will just say no to my request, and they never actually do anything. Fear is entirely spiritual, and it falls under the F of faith. And a lot of what we work on in 5f coaching and what we work on in our book the holistic you is helping people overcome the problem of fear, because it does obstruct your progress. It does shackle you to yesterday. It's a terrible thing fear, but unless you really understand the connection between the spiritual and the physical, the way the F of faith connects with all the other four F's. You're handicapped. You've got to see a unity in the five F's. They are connected. That's why we speak of the holistic, you and the physical and the spiritual are connected well. That means that if there are certain physical laws in the universe and there are well, then you want to know what are the spiritual equivalents of those laws and principles that apply on a spiritual level. So we can pick, I mean, as you know, open a book on physics, and there are dozens and dozens and dozens of laws of physics that you can look up and study. But how about if we just take three shall we? Case? Number one, this would be Newton's first law of motion, right? This talks about inertia. Now, inertia states that objects will either remain at rest, or if they, if they are at rest, or they'll keep moving in a straight line at a constant speed, unless some external force acts upon them. And this law is absolutely fundamental. So if you put a tennis ball in your hand, extend your hand and leave go, according to Newton's first law of motion, according to the law of inertia, that tennis ball should just sit there, and there's only one reason it doesn't, and that's because of gravity of the earth.
Daniel Lapin 19:16
Gravity of the Earth pulls it down. You may well have seen videos of astronauts who are in orbit, and when they put something in front of their faces, it does stay there, because they're in a state of zero gravity, at least for part of their journey. And so one has to understand this. I'll tell you another example. I've often mentioned it because it's so interesting to me, and if you're you know if, if your car suffers a brake failure, and you now you're trying to bring your car to a standstill, one of the things you'll think are doing is yanking on the handbrake, the emergency brake, and you are shocked. Tough to discover that it does almost nothing at all. Yet, had you touched the foot brake and it was in good working condition, it would bring the car to a standstill, depending on its speed, quite quickly. Why is that? Well, the answer is that obviously the emergency brake, or the handbrake, is very weak. It's not strong enough to bring the car to a standstill from 50 miles an hour. But then, why does it work as a parking brake? Well, because Newton's law helps. When a car is stationary, it takes very little force to keep it stationary, because Newton's law is helping you. Newton's law says the tendency of every object is to keep doing whatever it's doing, moving in a straight line or being stationary. And so since the car is stationary, when you apply the parking brake, it wants to stay stationary anyway, and if there is any force on it to make it roll, that would be because you parked on a hill, but that's not a lot of force. And so even a weak handbrake, an emergency brake, will keep your car stationary, but for bringing it to a standstill from 50 miles an hour, that needs to be a very strong brake, and sure enough, power assisted hydraulics, disc brakes on all four wheels. Yeah, that that's what's needed, because you are changing the state of motion. How's about getting the car moving? Well, if you have a regular gasoline powered car, a real car, you'll start off in first gear. Well, first gear is very powerful. It's, you know, you may drop to first gear if you're climbing slowly up a very steep hill. But why is it that even when you pull away from your driveway, you start off in first gear? Well, once again, changing the state. You used to be stationary. You're now moving. That takes force and that's why you use a low gear later on, once you're rolling along, Newton's law wants you to keep rolling along, so at this point you don't need that strong force. So you can have a weaker gear, namely fourth or fifth or these days, seventh or eighth. And that's how it works. So I've just told you the physical aspect All right, the Newton's law is that objects that are at rest stay stationary unless some outside force makes the move. Objects that are in move in movement, well, they maintain their speed and direction, unless some outside force changes them. That's a really important thing, and it's something you experience on a day to day basis. You know, again, if you're walking, there's a certain cadence that most people have, which is their comfortable walking speed. It has to do with your size and weight, the length of your legs and there's a certain, okay, getting up to that takes more work than keeping that. Again, we know this, and it's real. It's a physical law. How's about the spiritual instance of that? Because this is a law of reality. It's how the world really works. We've spoken up till now about the way that law works physically. But how does it work spiritually? Well, it works spiritually because we all tend to resist changing our habits. We all tend to keep doing what we were doing, which is one of the reasons that making the second half of 2025 much, much, much better than the first half of 2025 is hard, because all bodies tend to keep doing whatever they were already doing, and that's what's so important to understand. You know, if you have the habit of eating an ice cream after dinner every night and you say to yourself, you know, I should stop that. That's probably needless calories. It's not healthy for me, you are going to discover it's really hard the first dinner you try and go without it. That's where you're changing your speed from zero to something, or the other way around. If you're speaking about braking power as opposed to engine power, works the same both ways. It's very hard. Now imagine you succeed in doing that, and you succeed the next night, and the third night and two weeks go by, and for 14 days in a row you've not eaten an ice cream after dinner the next night the 15th night is it as easy? Is or as hard not to eat, and I assume, as was the first night, of course, not, because you're already in this new pattern. And so Newton's law says you're going to keep tending to go in the same pattern. And so again, this is really useful. You know what? In whatever you want to do, whatever you want to do that improves your life. You want to start saving money, spending less and saving more. You want to lose weight. You want to start exercising, whatever you want to start phoning a relative once a week, whatever it is you can reassure yourself that all you got to do is manage to pull it off the first few times, and after that, it'll be much, much easier, right? So I acknowledge how very hard it is to do it the first time and the second and the third, but knowing that it's getting easier all the time, this is the equivalent of starting off in first gear, because it's so difficult to get the car moving. Soon as you're rolling along, you can shift to second, then third, then to fourth. Finally, you're 60 miles an hour down the freeway. You can move it up to six or so, you know, whatever your Top Gear is, because you don't need as much power to do that anymore, because you're already rolling along. And so the same idea applies over here, that whether there's a bad thing you're doing you want to stop, or whether there's a good thing that you haven't been doing that you want to start doing. Know that the hardest part of it will be the first few times, and it gets easier and easier as you move along. So that's case. One Newton's first law of motion, or the law of inertia, works for cars and railway locomotives, just as it does for you yourself in improving your life. Let's look at the second example. And again, I mean, I'm just picking these there. They really are. So I mean, they all every single physical law does have a spiritual equivalent, Newton's second law. No, this isn't, this is not Newton's second law of motion, pardon me, instead of that, I want to talk about Newton's law of universal gravitation. Now, what this says is that every object in universe that has mass, attracts every other object that has mass. So we are familiar with this, with the Earth and the Moon, because the moon circles the Earth, but why doesn't it fly off into space in the same way that if you tie a let's imagine you tie a baseball to a piece of string. You can now whirl that string around your head in a big circle. Why doesn't the ball fly away? Because the string is holding it to you. Well, why doesn't the moon fly away as it's circling around the earth? Because the gravitational pull of the Earth holds it in place, so easy to see in cases like that. Newton himself is reputed to have dropped an apple and oh, look, the apple is falling in one direction. Why? Oh? Must be the earth is exerting a pull on the apple. Sure it is because any two objects exert a pull towards one another. Now, if they're small objects, then the pull is very weak. So if you're walking down the road with your brother, there actually is a measurable pull between the two of you, pulling you into each other, but you're not going to feel it because of the way of your body and your muscles and your feet on the ground, you're not going to feel it. I once was a participant in an experiment to sort of see this work on small objects. And what was done was, you know, big, heavy bowling balls, you know, whatever they weigh, they were suspended by thin fishing line from the ceiling. And what was then measured was what should be the distance between them and
Daniel Lapin 29:07
the distortion because of the gravitational pull that these two ball, big ball, bowling balls feel for one another. Using that language, if I may, is real tiny, but measurable. And so there it is. Any two objects in the universe will feel a pull towards one another, which is stronger. The closer they are to each other, the much stronger it'll be by a square of the distance. And it'll also be stronger if they are heavier. So that's okay, that's a simple rule. Okay, so what is the spiritual equivalent of this? Well, the spiritual equivalent of this is that we are attracted to other people. It's a spiritual attraction. If there's a crowd on the street corner, we join them. Invariably, if a number of people are doing something, we tend to do the same thing. There is a spiritual pull between bodies, just as there is a gravitational, physical pull between bodies, and we do feel that we feel a pull towards other people, and we like talking to them, and we like having them as contacts or friends or whatever your particular form of social media calls them. That is the spiritual version of the gravitational pull. So just as this law of universal gravitation says that every object in the universe attracts every other object, and it says the force of attraction is proportional to the object's masses and inversely to the square of the distance between them, all right? I mean, I'm just, that's just tech talk. But bottom line is that you are more attracted to a person with a strong gravitational pull, but not physically gravitational, but an attractive person. And you are more attracted if they're in your vicinity, then if they're very far away. And so sure enough, all the aspects that dictate how the physical law of gravitation works apply with the application of the spiritual version of the law of gravitation works just as well, and so it is sometimes, by the way, you you don't want to be pulled downwards and influenced by other people. I speak about spiritual gravity, right? The apple falls downwards. Well, I have a tendency as a human being, to be pulled downwards, as well by spiritual gravity, to resist doing the things I should do, and to feel a tug to do the things I shouldn't do. We feel those things, and that's spiritual gravity, and that's exactly what Newton's law of universal gravitation explains physically, but we now know that it can be applied spiritually just as accurately. And lastly, the law of critical mass. The best place to see Critical Mass is with nuclear energy, and particularly with Iran, and all the drama in Iran lately, we know that this is something very real. How much enriched uranium do the Iranians have, and how much do you need in order to make an atomic bomb? And the answer is less than you would think. So what does? Let's say, what is a regular soccer ball? Weigh right? Critical Mass means that if you have a pound of uranium in your hands, nothing's going to happen. 10 pounds of uranium in your hands, nothing's going to happen. 20 pounds a big block of uranium, nothing's going to happen. But there's a certain amount you're going to have which will set the reaction going. And it's a self sustaining, cascading reaction that just keeps going. And it could happen in a nuclear power station, in a in a Electricity Generating Plant with a nuclear reactor, or it can be a nuclear bomb, an atom bomb. In both cases, it's uranium that drives it, and you've got to have a certain amount of uranium, and it's got to be enriched uranium. It's got to be uranium 235 which is the measure of how, in a sense, not really how pure it is, but how much uranium there is in the uranium, if you like. And to just give you an idea, it's, again, we're still speaking about the physical law of critical mass. What is a soccer ball weigh, right? You all know the size of a soccer ball, right? Little, little bigger than a big grapefruit. What's a soccer ball? I don't know, about maybe eight inches in diameter, maybe something like that. And a soccer ball. What does it weigh? I don't know, probably, probably less than a pound, maybe a pound, pound and a half. I don't know exactly, but, but something like that. There's a regulation weights that a soccer ball must have. Let's imagine we had a ball of lead exactly the size of a soccer ball. What would that weigh? I. So that would weigh about 40 pounds, because lead is very dense. Now, what would happen if we had a ball of exactly the same size, but this time made of uranium, this would weigh about 250 pounds. So I can easily pick up a soccer ball with one hand. I can pick up a lead soccer ball with two hands and a lot of puffing and puffing, and I can pick up a soccer ball, sized ball of uranium. I will need a crane for that that weighs about 250 pounds, and even less than that is the critical mass. You have a soccer ball size piece of pure uranium, you're good to go. That's ready to become an atom bomb. Immediately, it's a critical mass. You have just five pounds of it. Nothing's going to happen. But what's the spiritual equivalent of the of critical mass. Well, if you've ever been the first person at a party, you learned your lesson. You then know what the meaning of the phrase fashionably late means anything rather than being the first person, the first guest to arrive at a party, you really don't want to do why? Because the critical mass has not yet been achieved. There not enough people for it to feel like a party. It just feels awkward. That's all there is to it. And sometimes also, let's say it's a brainstorming session. Let's say you arrange with a few people and they're going to come together. We're all going to think of solutions to a particular problem. And meanwhile, you invite, you know, you decide five or six people would really keep it going nicely. And you wait the three people show up, and nothing much happens. You need a few more people, so you got to wait. There is such a thing as critical mass and even in prayer. By the way, if you go to church and there are only five people at church or in the synagogue, it's not good. You want a crowd. And a crowd changes everything. You get a self sustaining reaction, and sometimes that's the magic of political parties as well, seen most notably in the scary videos that Leany Riefenstahl made of Hitler doing one of his Nuremberg rallies. And you realize right that if there were seven people in the auditorium who raised their arms and shouted, Heil Hitler, it really wouldn't have been a very terrifying sight. It would have been a calamity, from their point of view. But when you've got a critical mass of people, and critical mass sometimes depends on the size of the of the room, the size of the enclosure where it's taking place, right? And so in a huge auditorium like the Nuremberg stadium, needs many 1000s of people. If it's a, you know, a small party, a dinner party for 12 people, well, then you probably reach critical mass at about seven or eight or nine people. But if you then there's only three people there. Oh gosh, no, you don't want to do that. Critical Mass has a physical application, and it also has a spiritual application, and that, dear happy warriors, is how the world really works. Looking forward to speaking with you on this topic or any others, if you are a happy warrior member of the community, if not, do so soon, so that we can all help each other along. We do already have critical mass, and it's rather a wonderful community. So until next week, I wish you a journey upwards and onwards to make the rest of 2025, a really influential six months in your life, as you move along, improving your family and your finances, your faith, your friendships and your fitness. I'm Rabbi Daniel Lapin, God bless.
