Episode: The One Simple Strategy To Improve Your Life
Date: 10/12/2026 Length: 00:19:30
Rabbi Daniel Lapin (00:01)
Greetings, Happy Warriors and welcome to the Rabbi Daniel Lapin Show to a very special podcast where, as usual, I, your rabbi, reveal how the world really works. And one of the most important ways in which the world really works is that we realize that almost every productive moment you've had, every moment of joy,
Every moment of profit, every moment of productivity and achievement and happiness has come about because of an interaction with another human being, not with an artificial intelligence agent, not with a bot, but with another real creation of God, another real human being. And the key is to make sure that you convert what is merely or it could be merely an interaction into a productive possibility, something that is a seed pregnant with possible limitless results. What am I talking about? Well, really I'm talking about in this podcast, imparting to you one of the best specific life improvement strategies that there is. No complicated multi-step program.
Rabbi Daniel Lapin (01:30)
No, do this for 30 days and then, no. No exhortations for you to become something you are not. No, no, not at all. Only one specific, very effective life improvement strategy. That's what I've been wanting to share with you for months. And I'm not going to take 20 minutes to tell you what this single most effective life improvement strategy is.
No, I'm not going to take an hour. I'm going to tell you right now. Are you ready? Become good at getting other people to accept your ideas, adopt your goals and attack and act upon your plans. That's it. Become good at getting other people to accept your ideas. Become good at getting other people to adopt your goals and become good at getting other people to act upon your plans. Why is it that learning how to do this is such a very effective strategy for materially improving your life? Look, most of you are aware that I coach people towards better lives and that I've coached hundreds of clients in the Torah-based 5F system. I even have taught and accredited other people to become successful 5F coaches. In brief, the 5F system reveals how happy and fulfilling lives depend on success in only these five areas. Family, finance, friendships, fitness, and faith. Got it? Family, finance, friendships, fitness, and faith.
Rabbi Daniel Lapin (03:27)
Everything about fulfillment and happiness in life falls in to those five F's. The first F, which is family, includes romance, marriage, children, relatives, everything to do with family. Tell me, would a lonely person's, would a lonely single person's life be improved if they could get that one other special person? to adopt their goal of becoming committed to one another? Of course. Would a parent's life be improved if they knew exactly how to get their children to accept their ideas? Of course. Would a husband or a wife's life be improved if they could get their spouse onto exactly the same page they are singing from? Of course. The second F of finance, includes relationships with customers, clients, employees, associates, lenders, borrowers, supervisors, vendors, and so many more aspects of your financial life. Tell me, do you think the life of a dentist who's trying to build up his practice, would it improve dramatically if he knew how to flawlessly increase the number of patients who believe that he is the absolute best dentist to care for their teeth? Of course. Would the life of a first-time job seeker improve if she knew how to interview so effectively that the employer begged her to join this company? Of course. Would the life of a sales professional be improved if he was able to significantly increase his sales? I think so.
Rabbi Daniel Lapin (05:23)
Often the third F, friendship, evolves excitingly. How often does it happen? You know the answer. How often does it happen that a friend becomes a business associate? How often does it happen that somebody who was a friend all of a sudden becomes significant in your financial life? It happens all the time. But only if you know how to share and how to present and persuade your friend of your idea for collaboration. How often does a friend evolve into a romantic partner? It happens often, provided you know how to avoid being imprisoned in the friend zone forever. And to do this, you have to know how to get your friend to seriously consider your ideas, your plans, and your vision.
In other words, you need to know how to sell, influence and persuade. All this is also true for the last two F's, fitness and faith. How to sell, influence and persuade yourself to stick to your goals and avoid procrastination and achieve your purpose. That's how best to relate to yourself.
and faith? Well, now we're talking about prayer, and it follows the same general principles I'm going to be talking about, but we're not going to go into that in any great detail here and now. The key takeaway is that knowing how to sell, influence, and persuade is crucial for relationships to progress towards purpose and benefit for both parties. And here's the thing, like singing, omelette making, dancing, coding computers, and almost all other human endeavors. There are right ways and also many wrong ways. In general, like a surfer who positions himself for an approaching wave and then rides it triumphantly all the way to the shore, knowing how to do something allows you to surf.
Rabbi Daniel Lapin (07:53)
to success.
Instructing you in the technologies of selling, influencing and persuading is central to my entire 5F coaching system. But instead of becoming my coaching client, for which obviously I charge a great deal of money, you have a far less expensive alternative. Simply take my comprehensive online course on how to sell, influence and persuade.
in every area of your life. I ask you to take a minute and think about how many times in the past week did a desired outcome not materialize in your life exactly because you failed to sell, influence, or persuade another person. Was there only one instance in which you tried to invoke collaboration in your plans from another person? Could have been in family, finance or friendship, but you failed? Was there only one instance? Or were there perhaps five such occasions? At any rate, I think you can appreciate how very effectively knowing how to sell, influence and persuade can really improve your life. At many points in the course you will find yourself thinking, of course, obviously that is the way to make this work. Why didn't I think of that? For the same reason you cannot just think of how to pilot a plane, design a house or mix a drink. None of us can. We all need teachers.
Rabbi Daniel Lapin (09:48)
That's how information is conveyed from one generation to the next. And of course, always, once we have learned how to do it, it seems easy, almost seems obvious. But to everyone else, it looks as if it's almost like magic.
And that is where you are right now, right? You almost cannot believe that anybody can become fluent and excellent at selling, influencing and persuading, but you can become good. At the very least, you will become very much better at selling, influencing, persuading than you now are.
I'll tell you, I once read the story of how Home Depot, the huge hardware store, began. The book was written by Home Depot founder Bernie Marcus, and it's called Built From Scratch, how a couple of regular guys grew the Home Depot from nothing to 30 billion dollars.
A number of years ago, I called Bernie Marcus and arranged to interview him in his office in Atlanta. I was curious about what might have been the one thing that enabled Bernie and Arthur Blank, his partner, to get fired from their jobs at a Southern California hardware store in the 1970s called Handy Dan, and then persuade brilliant financier in New York, Ken Langone who donated the money to build the New York University Langone Health Centers with about over 400 locations now. Anyway, Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank were able to persuade Ken to help them bring alive their dream and their vision by finding the finances to start from scratch and build about two and a half thousand Home Depot stores in North America. Wanna know what Bernie Mark has told me on the top floor of his office building next to the first Home Depot in Atlanta, Georgia? In response to my question of, know, what was the one thing? He said, Arthur and I were able to sell hardware to customers. We were able to influence associates on how to staff our stores. And we were able to persuade Ken to finance the dream. We were able to sell, influence and persuade. Those are the skills that built Home Depot and hundreds of other large and successful enterprises.
Rabbi Daniel Lapin (12:51)
You know, I can't even count. I mean, I talked to many successful people. I can't even count how many. And by the way, when I say successful, I count success as success, not just in finance, but success in all five F's. Men with terrific families, strong finances and many friendships. Men who have their health, men who have faith. I can't tell you how many men answered my question.
What was your very best accomplishment? And they answer with these words, persuading my wife to marry me. And I crack up every time because I get that so often. That's right, persuading my wife to marry me, persuading. So whether your challenge is getting your kids to bed on time so you and your wife can have some quiet time together.
Rabbi Daniel Lapin (13:47)
Or getting an ordinary customer to sign on the line and let you close the deal. Or getting a voter to cast their vote in a certain direction. Or maybe it's getting the board of directors of your homeowners association, maybe your child's school parent-teacher association to make a specific policy decision. It is in your power to bring about these life-improving outcomes as soon as you master how to sell, influence and persuade. And please do not think that it is being manipulative. The first true story I tell in the Sell Influence Persuade program concerns a 19 year old Daniel Lapin in Germany. And the story in short, is that I was a student in Great Britain, in England, and I wanted a summer job, and I was offered a job to sell, believe it or not, dinner sets of English bone China, very, very fine quality China, to American servicemen in Germany. And that was, by the way, the start of my, it was my very first interaction with Americans. And it had a lot to do with why I arrived in this country many years ago.
But I speak about how it was that I got the job, how I understood the value of having commission only job. That's right. No draw, no advance, no salary, commission only. Really everything resting on my shoulders. I learned so much from this. And I speak about how you'll hear the story in its entirety, how
I met with an American couple. He was a lieutenant in the US Army and she was his wife. And I sold them on purchasing a very expensive set of English bone China. And I've got to tell you that when I went back to my sales manager, on the one hand, I was proud. I'd done everything he told me to do and it worked exactly as he said it would. But I also felt bad. I felt I talked them into something that they wouldn't have otherwise done without me. I manipulated them into spending a lot of money. And to my astonishment, my sales manager took me back the next night to the very same family. And in the program, I tell you what he told that family and what they said, which totally changed my 19 year old immature and undeveloped mind.
To understand what selling and influencing and persuading is all about. And so I told you right up front that the most important life improving thing you can do now, not tomorrow, but now is acquire the ability to sell, influence and persuade. I told you that in the very first five minutes of our conversation,
Rabbi Daniel Lapin (17:11)
But it does naturally take a little longer to learn how to wave this almost magical wand of being able to self-influence and persuade the people with whom you interact. Well, how much longer? Well, the program of self-influence and persuade gives you this priceless technology, the invaluable tips, tools and techniques for effectively selling, influencing and persuading in under two hours. That's the fact. All you got to do is set aside less than two hours, either this evening or maybe this coming weekend, change your life. You will be comfortable and skilled at persuading without pressure, selling without sleaze, and influencing with integrity.
